Full-Grain Leather

Full-grain leather is the outermost layer of the hide, making it the strongest and most durable type of leather. Full-grain leather hasn’t been sanded or buffed, which means it displays the more natural characteristics of leather. As the grain surface is left intact before applying the surface coating, the leather has more fiber strength and durability, while also allowing the natural grain to show through. This subtle finish allows the leather to continue to breathe, making it incredibly comfortable to wear.

Full-grain leather can last you years and even decades of wear when properly taken care of. Take the photo above as an example. The Blake boot on the left is brand new, while our Blake boot on the right is 8 years old and counting. Our personal Blake boot has been to 14 countries and has taken over 800,000 steps in its lifetime. Throughout the years, it has wrinkled, creased, and become so comfortable that it fits like a glove. And yes, we're still using it until now!

With all the types of leather out there, only the highest quality furniture, luggage, and footwear often feature full-grain leather, which ages very gracefully and may develop a beautiful patina over time. Full-grain leather is regarded as the highest quality leather, which is why we ultimately choose to use it for our products.

Every item has a story to tell.

The character and personality formed on a pair of Rob & Mara leather shoes are like a stamp of ownership that’s unique to every owner. Each pair will map the trips you've been on, the steps you've taken, the places you've traveled to. As your Rob & Mara leather shoes crease, wrinkle, and mold to your feet through age and wear, it becomes a part of you and your journey.
